Ackermann Extender Kit - Kit Extension Spindle 1F

The GFC/TB Kart Ackermann Extender Kit is a simple but effective tuning option that changes the steering geometry by moving the track rod pickup point further out on the steering arm.

What does it do?

Instead of replacing the steering column or steering plate, the extender bolts onto the existing steering arm and relocates the tie rod mounting hole.

This changes the Ackermann effect, which is the difference in steering angle between the inside and outside front wheels.

Standard Ackermann

  • More inside wheel angle.
  • Better rotation in slow corners.
  • More front bite.
  • Can increase scrub and tyre temperature.

With the Extender Kit

The tie rod is moved further from the kingpin, which generally:

  • Reduces the rate the inside wheel turns.
  • Makes steering smoother.
  • Reduces tyre scrub.
  • Makes the kart more stable under braking.
  • Gives a cleaner exit with less drag on the front tyres.

When would you use it?

Many GFC/TB drivers fit it when:

✅ High grip tracks
✅ Kart is "pointy" on entry
✅ Front hopping develops
✅ Rear lifts too aggressively
✅ Long races where front tyre wear becomes an issue

It can make the kart much easier to drive once the track rubbers in.

When not to use it

If the kart:

  • won't rotate,
  • pushes on entry,
  • has low grip,
  • or the track is green,

you're usually better with the standard steering geometry.

What does the driver feel?

Without the extender:

  • Very direct steering.
  • Fast rotation.
  • Aggressive front end.

With the extender:

  • Calmer steering.
  • More confidence on turn-in.
  • Less twitchiness.
  • Easier to be consistent over a race distance.

How it works with other setup changes

The Ackermann extender is often tuned alongside:

More Front Grip Less Front Grip
11° stub axle 10.5° stub axle
More caster Less caster
Narrow front track Wider front track
Standard Ackermann Ackermann Extender

Because all of these affect how quickly the inside rear lifts, they should be considered together rather than in isolation.

For example, if you fit 11° stub axles to gain rotation but then find the kart becomes nervous as grip builds, fitting the Ackermann extender can restore stability without losing all of the extra turn-in from the 11° stubs.
